GUY BUTTERY – LIVE IN EAST LONDON
In association with Concerts SA, multiple award winning guitar virtuoso, Guy Buttery returns to East London for a one off show at the Stirling High School Auditorium. At the age of 30, Buttery has achieved what most musicians accomplish in a lifetime.
With sell-out performances in the US, the UK, Australia, Brazil, France, Italy and all over Southern Africa, Guy Buttery is Africa’s biggest acoustic music export. Described as a “National treasure” by the Mercury, Guy has two South African Music Awards (SAMA’s) under his belt (in 2010 for his album “Fox Hill Lane” and again in 2014 for “Live in KwaZulu”) and four Standard Bank Ovation Awards. Buttery has performed his works with KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and an endless list of several of South Africa’s greats. His recent tour of SA was voted “Top Live Show of the Year” by The Cape Times.
Guy Buttery has propelled his career far beyond the borders of his beloved South Africa. As an internationally recognized musician, this multi-instrumentalist enjoys invitations to play sell-out performances all over the globe. However, to brand Guy Buttery as one of South Africa’s musical phenoms would be an injustice. He has grown into so much more. His international role has surpassed merely playing shows to foreign audiences. It has evolved into one as an ambassador of South African music, inspiring people across the world with our homegrown style at the very heart of his talent and tenacity. Guy Buttery is our musical advocate for everything positive and beautiful about the place we call home.
After receiving yet another Standard Bank Ovation Award for “Best Live Performance” at last year’s National Arts Festival, Guy has continued to push the envelope of what a solo artist is capable of. Expect high dynamics, deep grooves, delicate African inflections and mind-bending guitar chemistry of a new order.
